Question 1.1
Why do I "love" my iPod. It fits in my shirt pocket, I can take pictures, play music, scan, make calls, send email, make video, record mp3 live, etc. etc. For the $, it's a very handy and useful tool for the designer, educator and student.
Question 1.2 GAPS:
*1. Shelf to hold essentials on the top of LCD monitor. The device can be attached semi-permanently to any LCD monitor. 2. An easy way to indicate I want to save $ with a higher rate at the bank in a locked account. 3. A simple bracket/shelf for my car dash that allows me to stuff mail, etc. in it and holds it securely as I drive. 4. An application that allows easy connection to my MOOC classes and tracks topics, assignments, due dates, etc. Some kind of APP smashing is called for here. 5. Wireless connectors for power for computer peripherals. 6. Use of space above my head in workspace for storage that is easy to access. 7. An app that powers up my printer from the keyboard. Much like the app I use to "wake up my network" pcs. Something like the free program, Wake Me On Lan. 8. A better filing system for my tax papers, monthly bills, etc. It would integrate access to hard copies with that of scanned .pdfs, calendar, due-dates, etc. 9. Easier disposal of grease from indoor electric grill. 10. A way of generating power from low amplitude sound waves.
Question 1.3
I like the look of black iron or copper with wood. The back rest and seat could be made of such materials to contrast with the bent wood. The material, strong, light and inexpensive is steam bent bamboo. An alternative is using the tube bender that muffler shops use to bend exhaust pipe to make the chair out of bent tubing. Shelf in Place:
Shelf is made of brake formed sheetmetal. L-shaped legs are sheetmetal. An alternative material for manufacture is acrylic, heat bent. Legs are attached with adhesives.
